Harry could understand why Draco usually hated these things. Hector was indeed a bore, and he was clearly very fond of his own voice. He rabbited on and on with opinions on everything from Quidditch to Ministry politics without a single pause for anyone else to get a word in. Not that Harry would have bothered. He had learned years ago that people like Hector didn't want to hear anyone else's opinion or have a discussion. If Harry tried to cut in, it would just make Hector more belligerent.
It wasn't worth the effort. It was far more fun to appreciate the antics of the fairies swarming around the huge tree in the corner or subtly groped at Draco's arse. They managed to slip away for a little bit, but Pansy caught them kissing in her pantry and forced them back out to join the group.
Hoping to avoid listening to Hector, Harry tried to make conversation with Theo and his girlfriend instead. With them, he had the opposite problem. Harry couldn't get more than a word or two out of them at a time, and it felt like he was having a conversation with himself. He really just wanted to grab Draco and sneak back to the pantry, but Pansy was keeping close watch on them.
“Where is Seamus?” he murmured to Draco. “Why doesn't he have to suffer, too?”
Draco smiled at him. “He is probably dusting the wine bottles or polishing the already-perfect silver. He always comes up with a ridiculous list of chores to keep himself tucked away in the kitchen with a bottle of wine and no small talk. Pansy tries to object, but he claims that he wants everything to be perfect for her party and she falls for it every time.”
“Think he needs help with the dusting?”
Draco chuckled. “Astoria and I tried that one year, but Pansy didn't buy it. Apparently you have to be shagging the hostess for it to work.” He took a sip of wine. “It's not all bad. The food will be excellent and Pansy will drink enough that she won't notice if we sneak back to the pantry.” He leered at Harry, who smiled back at him. There was hope for the evening yet.

The evening did pick up. Harry was seated between Seamus and Theo at dinner. Theo warmed up after a drink or two, and conversation flowed more easily. Even better than the spoken conversation was the one he carried on with Draco across the table using only facial expressions. He wasn't sure, but he thought they were making plans for after dinner. Fun plans.
The food was indeed very good, and he had won a Christmas cracker with Theo and now owned a lovely set of silver cufflinks as well as a large straw hat with fake flowers on top. Draco had a bowler hat from his cracker and kept tipping it at Harry arching his eyebrow in a suggestive manner.
Best of all, pudding was served in the drawing room, so Harry found himself back at Draco's side. “Having fun,” Draco murmured as he handed Harry a cup of tea.
Harry thought about it. “Yes. You?”
Draco's smile was small and sweet. “Yes. Yes, I am.” He poured himself a cup of tea, and they settled onto a sofa with Draco's thigh pressed against Harry's. Their shoulders couldn't quite touch without the brim of Harry's hat hitting Draco's. “More fun than I would have expected from one of these dinners. So thank you.”
Harry was sure his cheeks were turning pink. “Glad to be of service.”
They drank their tea, nibbled on sweets, and chatted with Theo until Pansy was drunk enough not to protest them leaving. They bypassed the pantry and just went back to Harry's place.

Perfect ending. I'm happy to see they genuinely enjoyed themselves. Though I'm confident they'll enjoy themselves even more.
