Harry took another sip of wine. “I wasn't sure you were still interested.”
Draco smiled, perhaps appreciating his honesty. “I wasn't sure if you'd even remember our conversation. You were almost as drunk as the birthday boy.”
“Bill wasn't that drunk. You should have seen him at his 30th. That was drunk.” Harry smiled at the memory of the antics the Weasley boys had gotten up to that night. It had been the first time since Fred's death that George had seemed like his old self.
But over the years, the parties had changed. Bill's birthday still marked the beginning of the Christmas season for the Weasleys, but the pranks and drunken dares had slowly faded into cuddling couples and romantic moments. Most of the time, Harry didn't mind being single. He had a job he loved, great friends, and a closer relationship with his godson than most fathers had with their sons. He was perfectly content, thankyouverymuch. But at big parties, surrounded by his friends all paired off and mostly happy, he found himself suddenly wanting to be paired off, too. Or at least not to get the pitying looks near mistletoe or as midnight approached on New Year's Eve.
That was the line of thought he'd shared with Draco last week as they sat in a corner and drank Fleur's punch. Draco had gestured to where Seamus and Pansy were having another of their famous rows, muttering about how even the couples that could barely stand each other seemed to fare the holidays better than they did. It was then that Harry had had his idea: why couldn't Draco and Harry just pair up for the holidays?
